Sow seeds from end of February to April under glass for the best crops. Outdoors sow seeds in a seed bed in March/April thinly 12mm (½in) deep in rows 23cm (9in) apart. If the soil is dry, water well and allow to drain before sowing.

Transplant in late spring/early summer when approx. 15cm (6in) tall, allowing 6-8cm (2-2.5ft) between plants. Plant firmly, the soil should be well limed and in good heart, with plenty of well rotted compost etc., preferably from a previous crop. Before planting rake in 3oz/sq yd of a balanced fertiliser. Water in dry weather.

When the sprouts start to form, pinch out the growing point to assist development. To avoid the danger of Clubroot grow your Brassicas (Cabbages, Sprouts, Cauliflowers etc.) in a different site each year so that they only occupy the same spot once in four years.
